Arrested Development to Start Filming Today

(Via Examiner)

The Arrested Development run of ten episodes that will air on Netflix is set to start filming today.  We’ve been counting the days until the moment and it is finally upon us!  Deadline reports that the entire original cast of Jason Bateman, Jeffrey Tambor, Portia de Rossi, David Cross, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Alia Shawkat and Tony Hale will be returning along with Ron Howard in his capacity as a narrator.  That’s one character per episode, which may factor into the idea that each episode will focus on one of the Bluths, likely with multiple characters in certain episodes. (Could we get an episode all about the narrator, maybe?)

Production is expected to continue into the fall.  Creator Mitch Hurwitz is open to an additional season if the first run proves successful.  Netflix has said they’ll release all ten episodes at the same time on an unspecified day in 2013.

More 'Arrested Development' Season 4 Teasing

(Via Screen Crush)

Salvation, thy name is Bluth.  It’s been a tremendously long road to getting ‘Arrested Development’ the reunion it deserves following the miserable 2003 cancellation, and with miles to go, but every glimpse we get seems like banana from heaven.  The first set and character pictures have emerged from the fourth season, set to debut on Netflix in 2013, and who do you think is looking for his Gangee?

To think, ‘Arrested Development’ peaked before Twitter was even a thing.  Now, the ever-popular short-form social media has given us our first real look at the revival of ‘Arrested Development,’ via series star Jason Bateman’s Twitter.  Earlier today, Bateman tweeted out the first images of actor Michael Cera reprising his role as Michael Bluth’s son George Michael, shot amidst the newly-rebuilt Bluth model home set, as well as Lucille Bluth’s apartment.

There isn’t much to be gleamed from the below photos, captioned “My son, arriving yesterday,” and “A grandson, looking for his Gangee,” other than that Michael Cera seems to have ditched his trademark shag for something more George Michael-appropriate.  It remains unknown exactly how far the ‘Arrested Development’ revival will age the characters, particularly George Michael.

Also unknown is exactly what structure the 10-episode season will take for its 2013 bow.  Initially it had been reported that each episode would focus on a specific character, but later clarifications from series creator Mitch Hurwitz suggested things had moved closer to the show’s traditional format.  Then again, another of Bateman’s recent tweets showed a script that read “Arrested Development: Michael,” so we won’t know for sure just yet.

Ron Howard Tweets “Arrested Development” Season Four Script

(via IFC Blog)

“Arrested Development” begins shooting in less than two weeks, and Ron Howard has the visual proof to confirm it.

Howard has acted as producer and voiced the “Narrator” character on “Arrested Development” since its inception, and he’s been a big part of making the movie new season come together. He’s also been a big part of teasing us with snippets of the production process on Twitter, which he did yesterday in a big way.

As you can see above, Howard tweeted the first page of the script for the premiere episode of season four, titled “Michael.” “Very very funny. Lots of lines for the narrator too!” he wrote.

Initially the plan for the “Arrested Development” TV series was to have each of its 10 episodes deal with an individual character so that the audience would be caught up in time for an eventual movie to be made. Since the movie doesn’t look like it will be happening (or at least not happening any time soon), creator Mitch Hurwitz said that the new season will be “more like the old show again.” It looks like the final product has ended up being a cross between those two ideas.

We still don’t have a release date set for the fourth season of the show, but we do know that it will be released all at once on Netflix at some point next year. We also know Bob Loblaw, Ann Veal and Barry Zuckerkorn are all slated to return. And based on what David Cross had to tell us, the entire cast is excited to reprise their roles.

“It’s a character that I love and a great group of people that I look forward to working with again, and it’s a Mitch Hurwitz script so it’s going to be fucking meta, meta layers of hilarity,” he said. “I can’t say anything for obvious reasons and I won’t say anything but they’re all great. I’m really, really chomping at the bit to do this stuff.”

Swamp People Open Auditions Brings Out Gator Hunters

(Via Fox44)

The History Channel's popular show ‘Swamp People’ is looking for a few good gator hunters.

The show’s casting directors hosted an open casting call in Baton Rouge Sunday. They are looking for experienced hunters with at least 50 tags liscenced to hunt in Louisiana or Texas.

Casting directors told FOX44 they are looking for people whose personality pops that would make Louisiana proud.

Kenney Patureau and his son Ezra came to tryouts, because they say they've got what it takes to be gator hunting stars.

"First of all we catch good gators,” said Patureau. “They always get good action. I think it's a good thing showing that I'm trying to bring in the next generation teaching him the ropes."

"I want people who are going to talk about that great character or the show,” said casting director Lyle Dohl.
“It's more than just water cooler talk. It's about making a statement and be proud about a subculture, a really important subculture."

If you missed this weekends Swamp People open casting call you have two more chances to try out in person. For more information on when and how to audition click here.

“Portlandia” nominated for two Primetime Emmys

It’s a good day to be Fred and Carrie.

The nominees were announced for the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards this morning and “Portlandia,” still hot off its second season, was nominated in two major categories. Considering that only 16 episodes have been aired between the show’s two seasons, that’s pretty impressive, especially given the show received one Emmy already for its first season.

“Portlandia” earned nods in both the “Outstanding Directing For A Variety Series” category (for “One Moore Episode,” of course) and in the “Outstanding Writing For Variety Series” category. That puts them up against some very tough and very prestigious competition.

In both nomination categories, “Portlandia” will face off against Emmy darlings “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” “The Colbert Report” and “Saturday Night Live.” In the directing group, “Late Show with David Letterman” also received a nod, while it’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” that is “Portlandia’s” competitor in “Outstanding Writing.”

Our congratulations go out to everyone involved in the “Portlandia” team, as well as everyone else who was nominated this year. This is certainly a great year for television.
