Resident Evil, known as Biohazard (バイオハザード Baiohazādo?) in Japan, is a media franchise consisting of a survival horror and rail shooter video game series published by Capcom, comic books, novels and novelizations, sound dramas, live-action and computer-generated feature films, and a variety of collectibles, including action figures and strategy guides. The franchise initiated in 1996 with the first installment in its video game series, which has been created by Shinji Mikami and is the most commercially successful survival horror series, having sold almost 45 million units as of December 2010. |
